Wolves are a magnificent, if misunderstood, creature. For decades they were hunted nearly to extinction. Thanks in large part to a change in public perception; they are making a comeback.
Due in large part
to government policies, the Gray Wolf was eradicated throughout the
entire continental United States. Today, thanks to a change in government
policy and public perceptions, the Gray Wolf is making a comeback.
In 1995, the National Park Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service
reintroduced roughly 3 dozen of these magnificent animals to Yellowstone
National Park. Today, the wolf population of the Yellowstone ecosystem
is well over two hundred strong.
