The American Bison once numbered in the tens of millions of animals.
In little more than 100 years, commercial hunting operations and
habitat loss reduced their numbers to little more than a handful
of creatures. Today, Yellowstone's 3,000 bison are the last free
ranging members of the once great herds that blanketed the American
Midwest.
